4 New Horror Movies Released This Week Including ‘I Saw the TV Glow’ at Home

One of the most acclaimed horror movies of the year, A24’s I Saw the TV Glow heads home this week, and it’s joined by three other horror movies as well as an anthology TV series.

First up, Gravitas Ventures released G.S. Foxwood’s horror film Wild Eyed and Wicked on VOD outlets this past Tuesday, June 11. The film blends elements of horror, familial drama, and fantasy to “create a unique, emotionally powerful, and terrifying experience.”

Molly Kunz (Widows, The Irrational), Michael X. Sommers (Sense8), Stefanie Estes (Soft & Quiet), and Colleen Camp (Clue) star in the indie horror film Wild Eyed and Wicked.

Wild Eyed and Wicked follows Lily Pierce (Kunz) in her attempt to strike back at the medieval creature that’s haunted her family for generations. She must reconnect with her estranged father, Gregory (Sommers), a disgraced history professor, and learn how to draw upon a time of steel and blade when armor-clad knights rode out and dueled monsters to the death.


A24 and Writer/Director Jane Schoenbrun’s I Saw the TV Glow is one of this year’s most talked-about horror movies, and it’s now available to watch at home! A24’s nostalgic, coming-of-age, sci-fi horror film is available to digitally rent for $19.99 or purchase for $24.99.

In the film, “Owen is just trying to make it through life in the suburbs when his classmate introduces him to a mysterious TV show — a vision of a supernatural world beneath their own. In the pale glow of the television, Owen’s view of reality begins to crack.”

Justice Smith (Jurassic World Dominion) and Brigette Lundy-Paine (Bill & Ted Face the MusicBombshell) lead the cast alongside Helena Howard (The Wilds), Danielle Deadwyler (The Harder They Fall), Amber Benson, Ian Foreman, Michael Maronna, Conner O’Malley, Emma Portner, and Danny Tamberelli.

Lindsey Jordan (Snail Mail), musician-director Fred DurstHaley Dahl’s Sloppy Jane (featuring Phoebe Bridgers), and King Woman also appear in I Saw the TV Glow.

Meagan wrote in her Sundance review for BD, “I Saw the TV Glow offers a layered and authentic portrait of identity, wrapped in ’90s nostalgia and surreal imagery that embeds itself deep into your psyche.” Meagan continued, “Schoenbrun delivers a singular vision of arthouse horror that entrances for its fevered dream style and insanely cool imagery.”


Exhuma grave

The breakout Korean blockbuster Exhuma was released onto VOD outlets this past Tuesday, and beginning today (June 14), the film is now available to stream exclusively on Shudder.

Exhuma is directed by Jang Jae-Hyun (Svaha: The Sixth Finger) and stars popular Korean actors CHOI Min-Sik (Oldboy, I Saw the Devil), KIM Go-Eun (Hero, Little Women), YOO Hai-Jin (A Taxi Driver), and LEE Do-Hyun (Prison Playbook, Sweet Home).

In the film, “When a renowned shaman and her protégé are hired by a wealthy, enigmatic family, they begin investigating the cause of a disturbing supernatural illness that affects only the first-born children of each generation. With the help of a knowledgeable mortician and the country’s most revered geomancer, they soon trace the affliction’s origin to a long-hidden family grave located on sacred ground.

“Sensing an ominous aura surrounding the burial site, the team opts to exhume and relocate the ancestral remains immediately. But as something much darker emerges, they soon discover what befalls those who dare to mess with the wrong grave.”


Tiger Stripes 2024

A young girl is the first to hit puberty among her friends in the coming-of-age horror story Tiger Stripes, and the Malay-language body horror film opened in select theaters today.

If you can’t find it in theaters, it’s coming home to VOD on July 9.

Tiger Stripes is written and directed by Amanda Nell Eu, marking her directorial debut. The film’s unique approach to horror has been compared to Carrie and Ginger Snaps.

“The first amongst her friends to hit puberty, Zaffan, 12, discovers a terrifying secret about her body. Ostracised by her community, Zaffan fights back, learning that to be free she must embrace the body she feared, emerging as a proud, strong woman.”

Zafreen Zairizal, Deena Ezral, Piqa, Shaheizy Sam, Jun Lojong, Khairunazwan Rodzy, and Fatimah Abu Bakar star.


Nightmares and Daydreams teaser

And finally, Indonesian filmmaker Joko Anwar (Satan’s Slaves, Impetigore), known internationally for stylish and gory horror, is back with the seven-episode supernatural anthology series “Nightmares and Daydreams,which began streaming on Netflix today.

Netflix describes “Nightmares & Daydreams” as “a supernatural thriller series that shows there isn’t necessarily a rational explanation behind every occurrence.”

Here’s the full official synopsis: “A sci-fi supernatural series about ordinary people encountering strange phenomena that may be keys to the answer about the origin of our world and the imminent threat we will soon face. Characters and plots will intertwine like pieces of a puzzle. And the big picture will be awe-inspiring.”

The seven episode series presents a different story and a new set of actors in each installment, leading up to a big showdown in the finale. Ario Bayu, Lukman Sardi, Yoga Pratama, Fachri Albar, Marissa Anita, and Sita Nursanti star in “Nightmares & Daydreams.”

‘Smile 2’ Trailer – The Sinister Curse Targets a Pop Star This Halloween

The viral marketing campaign kicked off last week for Paramount and director Parker Finn’s Smile 2, and as promised, the film’s first official trailer has arrived this morning.

Naomi Scott leads the cast of Smile 2, which arrives in theaters on October 18, 2024.

Scott is playing a fictional pop star named Skye Riley in the upcoming horror sequel, and in addition to the Smile 2 trailer, Skye’s single “Blood on White Satin” has been released today.

In Smile 2, “About to embark on a new world tour, global pop sensation Skye Riley (Naomi Scott) begins experiencing increasingly terrifying and inexplicable events. Overwhelmed by the escalating horrors and the pressures of fame, Skye is forced to face her dark past to regain control of her life before it spirals out of control.”

The announced cast for Smile 2 also includes Kyle Gallner (Smile), Rosemarie DeWitt (“The Staircase”), Lukas Gage (“The White Lotus”), and Dylan Gelula (Dream Scenario), alongside Raúl Castillo (Army of the Dead) and Miles Gutierrez-Riley (The Wilds).
