‘Return of the Living Dead’ – Two Exclusive Images from Franchise’s Return Tease Christmas Theme
We had learned just about a year ago that rights holders Living Dead Media were developing a reboot of the Dan O’Bannon-created horror-comedy franchise The Return of the Living Dead, which hasn’t spawned a new movie in almost 20 years. This week, Bloody Disgusting has learned that a big announcement is going to be made by the team tomorrow, December 13.
In the meantime, Living Dead Media and director Steve Wolsh (Muck, Kill Her Goats) have provided Bloody Disgusting with two exclusive still images from that upcoming Return of the Living Dead movie, suggesting that the project is indeed still happening and coming soon.
Both exclusive images tease a Christmas/Winter theme for the next installment in the Return of the Living Dead franchise, the first one seemingly teasing a chilly new take on the Tarman.

One of the greatest horror-comedies of all time, Dan O’Bannon’s 1985 movie The Return of the Living Dead ended up launching a franchise that to date includes five total movies.
The first sequel came in 1988 and featured returning actors, but 1993’s Brian Yuzna-directed Return of the Living Dead 3 went in an entirely different direction with a wildly different storyline. And then we got Return of the Living Dead: Necropolis and Return of the Living Dead: Rave to the Grave, which were both released direct-to-television in 2005.
Living Dead Media previews, “Our reboot of Return of the Living Dead will expand the existing world created by the original 5 films, while staying true to the R-rated, sci-fi, horror, dark comedy roots adored by fans of the cult classic around the world for the last 35 years.”
Sunrise Films has announced the official North American release of William Bagley‘s horror comedy Hold the Fort, and it’s accompanied by an energetic new trailer.
Hold the Fort debuts on digital platforms on June 23.
In the film, “Lucas and Jenny think their life is finally coming together when the couple become homeowners. Little do they know that their new house comes with a big catch. Lucas and Jenny soon find themselves in a fight for their lives when they become trapped in a battle between their Homeowners Association and an onslaught of monsters from hell. The horror-comedy takes the timely concern of home-ownership and wraps this up in an entertaining action-packed thrill ride.“

William Bagley writes and directs, in addition to producing with Smith, Matt Dodd, Luke Williams, and Tim Reis (Adult Swim Yule Log).
Ahead of the release, Bagley said, “My goal with this film was to make a hilarious, fast-paced thrill ride while also telling a great story with heart. Hopefully, through all the blood, laughs, fights, and gags, you leave the film feeling inspired to tackle whatever life throws at you.“
Hold the Fort premiered at Fantasia last summer before going on to play FrightFest London, Toronto After Dark, and Beyond Fest.
I wrote in my review, “It’s an infectiously charming assemblage of jokes and monster vignettes bound together by a barebones plot with not much on its mind beyond delivering an entertaining time.”
