Grammy Award Winner and filmmaker Flying Lotus (Kuso, V/H/S/99) is back this week with Ash, a trippy sci-fi survival horror movie that brings the gore. To prove it, we have exclusive new images from the film that tease some of the stomach-churning horror ahead.

Ash opens in theaters this Friday, March 21, before heading to Shudder sometime later this year.

Eiza González (Baby Driver) and Aaron Paul (“Breaking Bad”) star in Ash, alongside Iko Uwais (The Raid: Redemption), Beulah Koale, and Kate Elliott.

In the sci-fi horror film, “On the mysterious planet of Ash, Riya (González) awakens to find her crew slaughtered. When Brion (Paul) arrives to rescue her, an ordeal of psychological and physical terror ensues while Riya and Brion must decide if they can trust one another to survive.”

Flying Lotus also composed the score for the film and directs from a script by Jonni Remmler.

I wrote in my review, “Ash doesn’t reinvent the subgenre, but it’s not trying to. Flying Lotus instead tells this familiar story in a way that only he could, delivering the equivalent of an ultra-violent space survival horror video game in cinematic form. It’s an immersive, experiential vibe movie that washes over you with its droning score that ramps up in intensity along with the chaos.” And, “Ash is the equivalent of getting hypnotized and pulled into an almost Lovecraftian cosmic abyss, but only if you’re willing to ride its polarizing wavelength.”

Nate Bolotin (The Raid, Mandy) and Mathew Metcalfe produce, while Nick Spicer, Maxime Cottray, Aram Tertzakian, Maile Daughtery, Flying Lotus, Dave Brown, Adam Riback, and filmmaker Neill Blomkamp (District 9) serve as executive producers.

Check out the gory new Ash images below, increasing in gore and violence.

‘Cartoon Cat’ – Trevor Henderson’s Viral Art Getting a Horror Film Adaptation from TriStar Pictures

Trevor Henderson’s viral artwork is all the rage in the wake of Backrooms changing the game for internet-created horror, with his creation Siren Head getting a feature film adaptation from Warner Bros. Deadline now reports that Henderson’s Cartoon Cat artwork is also getting a film adaptation, with Sony’s TriStar Pictures picking up the feature film rights.

Producers on board for the Cartoon Cat movie include Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, Scott Glassgold, and J. Todd Harris, along with Thomas Pettinelli and Marc Marcum.

Deadline notes in tonight’s report, “TriStar is said to be looking to hit the ground running on the filmmaker search to bring Cartoon Cat to life. The menacing cat is described as an ancient hollow rot that uses the collective human awareness and memories of old cartoons as a passageway to manifest into our reality – and wreak violent havoc.”

“Nicole Brown and Malcolm Gray of Tri-Star are responsible for wrangling the evil cat and will oversee its fast-tracked development,” Deadline’s exclusive report continues.

All of us here at Bloody Disgusting have been big fans of Trevor’s artwork for many years now, with his podcast Mayfair Watchers Society living on our BloodyFM Podcast Network.
