‘Push’ – Home Invasion Horror from ‘The Boy Behind the Door’ Filmmakers Heads to Shudder Next Month

David Charbonier and Justin Powell (The Boy Behind the DoorThe Djinn) are back with upcoming home invasion horror movie Push, and it’s heading to Shudder next month.

Push is set to debut on Shudder on July 11, 2025.

Alicia Sanz (El Cid) and Raúl Castillo (Smile 2) lead the cast.

The film follows Natalie Flores (Sanz), a pregnant realtor who is attacked by a sadistic killer (Castillo) at her open house, sending her into premature labor. Up against a physiological ticking clock, Natalie must find a way to escape before she gives birth.

Written and directed by Charbonier and Powell, Push is produced by Ryan Scaringe and executive produced by Amy Lippens, Jilbert Daniel, Del Charbonier, Sanz and Castillo.

In a chat with BD, Powell explained the film’s origins: “We wrote it before The Boy Behind the Door and The Djinn. I remember that it was really more of David’s idea because he started as a real estate photographer. I remember he was at this shootand he called me; he was all alone in this secluded house. He was like, ‘This is really weird. Someone could just come here and kill me.’ It was creepy. Then he said, ‘This feels like there’s some of an idea here.’ That’s where the original concept really came from. Beyond that, a lot of our stories, which you wouldn’t know based on our first two movies, I think really surround these really strong female leads. We’ve wanted to convey that for a while, and this was our first opportunity to actually jump in and do that. So that’s where it came from originally.”

I wrote in my Sitges festival review for BD, “Charbonier and Powell operate on a level that strips away all pretenses and excess, leaving nothing behind but a lean, mean home invasion thriller that plays like a breathless chase in a briskly paced 90-minute runtime.”

Jennifer Holland (“Peacemaker”) and Dave Annable (“Lioness”) will lead the cast of upcoming supernatural Civil War thriller Brine, Deadline reports this afternoon.

B.J. Golnick (“Hunting Hitler”) will be directing Brine.

Brine follows a family of Confederate deserters who escape the Union bombardment of Fort Pulaski with a cache of stolen gold and disappear into the Georgia marshlands.

When they take refuge in a remote plantation house, what first appears to be salvation slowly reveals itself as part of something ancient, predatory and impossible to escape.

Jonah Wharton (Lioness), Sissy Sheridan (Chicken Girls), and Grayson Lay (Outer Banks) also star. The screenplay was written by B.J. Golnick and Jeremy Miller.

Brine is a story about survival, but it is also a story about inheritance…The violence we pass down, the myths we create to justify it, and the cost of trying to break free,” Golnick previews.

“We intend for the film to feel intimate, historically grounded and deeply unnerving, as if the supernatural elements weren’t invented, but unearthed from the marsh itself.”
