‘Manhunter,’ ‘Monster Squad’ Actor Tom Noonan Has Passed Away

We’re sad to report the death of actor Tom Noonan, who passed away on Saturday at the age of 74.

Noonan is best remembered to horror fans as Francis Dollarhyde in Manhunter, Frankenstein in The Monster Squad, and Mr. Ulman in The House of the Devil.

Tom Noonan’s other genre credits include RoboCop 2, Wolfen, Eight Legged Freaks, Late Phases, The Roost, The Alphabet Killer, and “12 Monkeys.”

Noonan also had notable appearances in the likes of Heat, Last Action Hero, Synecdoche, New York, The Astronaut’s Wife, F/X, “Hell on Wheels,” and Anomalisa.

Off screen, Tom Noonan was an acclaimed writer and director of theatre and film. His 1994 film What Happened Was…, based on his own stage play, won the Grand Jury Prize and the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at Sundance.

“Tom’s indelible performance as Frankenstein in The Monster Squad is a highlight of my modest filmography,” The Monster Squad director Fred Dekker wrote in a tribute on Facebook. “He was the proverbial gentleman and scholar, and the world has lost a great talent.”
