American Psycho star Christian Bale has shared his thoughts on the impending second adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis‘ controversial 1991 novel.
“Whoever wants to give it a shot, give it a pop,” Bale tells THR.
“I loved making it with Mary Harron so many years back. Fantastic memories of it all,” he continues. “Bold choice of anyone to try to do a — I don’t know if they’re doing a remake or what. I don’t know anything else about it, but all the best to ’em. I like brave people.”
Bale starred in the 2000 satirical serial killer film as Patrick Bateman, a wealthy New York City investment banking executive who hides his alternate psychopathic ego from his co-workers and friends as he delves deeper into his violent, hedonistic fantasies.
Willem Dafoe, Jared Leto, Josh Lucas, Samantha Mathis, Matt Ross, Bill Sage, Chloë Sevigny, Cara Seymour, Justin Theroux, and Reese Witherspoon round out the cast.
Luca Guadagnino (Suspiria, Bones and All) is attached to direct the new adaptation from a script by Scott Z. Burns (Contagion, The Bourne Ultimatum).
“From what I’m told, this movie is completely different from Mary Harron’s 2000 movie,” said Ellis recently commented. “It’s a completely different take, and going to bear no resemblance to that movie.”
The Lionsgate film will be produced by Guadagnino’s Frenesy Films. Sam Pressman, the son of original American Psycho producer Edward R. Pressman, will executive produce through Pressman Film.
Bale can next be seen as Frankenstein in Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride!, in theaters this weekend.
