Charlize Theron Survival Thriller ‘Apex’ Rated R for Strong Violence, Grisly Images

Charlize Theron will face a serial killer in the Australian wilderness in Apex.

The survival thriller has received an R rating for “some strong violence, grisly images, nudity, and language.”

Described as Free Solo meets The Silence of the Lambs, the film streams April 24 on Netflix.

Theron stars as a grieving adrenaline junkie who sets out to conquer a menacing river in Australia, only to become ensnared in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse with a ruthless predator.

Taron Egerton (Carry-On) plays the killer, with Eric Bana (Deliver Us from Evil) rounding out the cast.

Baltasar Kormákur (Everest, 2 Guns) directs from a script by Jeremy Robbins (“The Purge”).

Theron produces alongside Beth Kono and AJ Dix via their newly launched Secret Menu, along with Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, & David Ready for Chernin Entertainment, Ian Bryce for Ian Bryce Productions, and Kormákur for RVK Studios.

Executive producers include Ray Angelic, Will McCance, and Dawn Olmstead for Secret Menu.
