Director André Øvredal’s (The Autopsy of Jane Doe, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, The Last Voyage of the Demeter) new horror movie Passenger is on the way early this year, and we’ve learned that Paramount has now bumped up the release date. Originally set for May 29, 2026, Passenger will now be released in theaters nationwide on May 22, 2026.
That brings Passenger to Memorial Day Weekend, a good show of faith in the film from Paramount. It also gets Passenger away from A24’s Backrooms, which is releasing on May 29.
André Øvredal writes on Instagram, “So excited that Paramount has decided to move Passenger up to what is maybe the biggest moviegoing weekend of the year.”
“That’s a once in a lifetime release date,” the filmmaker adds.
Where is the trailer for Passenger?
Paramount has been building buzz for Passenger by playing the teaser trailer only in theaters, and it still hasn’t yet made its way online. The short teaser shows a man having a harrowing experience on the highway, encountering strange figures standing eerily on the side of the road. The Passenger teaser ends with a jump scare: the man isn’t alone in his car.
We expect a Passenger trailer will make its way online very soon. Stay tuned.
