Director Paul Feig is back to direct The Housemaid’s Secret, the sequel to last year’s smash hit thriller The Housemaid, and Kirsten Dunst (Civil War) has joined the cast.
Kirsten Dunst will star alongside Sydney Sweeney in The Housemaid’s Secret.
In The Housemaid’s Secret, Sydney Sweeney’s character Millie returns, this time taking a job keeping house for a woman she’s never allowed to see—only to discover the truth behind the locked door that threatens to expose secrets far darker than her own.
Lionsgate Motion Picture Group’s Erin Westerman said in a statement, “It is a privilege to bring The Housemaid’s next chapter to the screen with Kirsten Dunst. She is an icon. Her career reflects extraordinary range and fearlessness. Opposite the ever-magnetic Sydney Sweeney, she will be an electrifying force in a world where nothing is ever quite as it seems.”
Screenwriter Rebecca Sonnenshine, who adapted the first book, will also return to write The Housemaid’s Secret, based on the bestselling novel by Freida McFadden.
The Housemaid proved to be a massive hit at the box office late last year and into this year, generating $395.7 million at the worldwide box office and guaranteeing a sequel.
Sydney Sweeney starred alongside Amanda Seyfried.
In The Housemaid, Millie, trying to escape her past, accepts a position as a live-in housemaid for a wealthy family. But what begins as a dream job quickly unravels into something far more dangerous — a sexy, seductive game of secrets, scandal, and power.
Meagan Navarro wrote in her review for Bloody Disgusting, “It’s a crowd-pleaser through and through, meant to be seen with a rowdy audience on board with the wild swings taken. Feig and Sonnenshine push the novel’s more outrageous aspects even further, injecting even bigger thrills, twists, and stakes. It’s the type of operatic insanity that practically begs for more.”
