New ‘World War Z’ Movie in the Works at Paramount

world war z sequel

It’s been 13 years since Brad Pitt starred in the big budget zombie movie World War Z, and we’ve been hearing about a potential sequel for almost as long. For what it’s worth, Paramount has announced at CinemaCon today that a new World War Z movie is in the works.

World War Z scared up $540 million at the worldwide box office upon its release in 2013, all but ensuring that a sequel would become a Paramount priority. But despite false starts including a version directed by David Fincher, the dead have remained, well, quite dead.

The action-horror movie World War Z adapted the Max Brooks novel and starred Brad Pitt as former U.N. investigator Gerry Lane. The film was directed by Marc Forster.

In World War Z, “a lethal virus, spread through a single bite, is turning healthy people into something vicious, unthinking, and feral.

“As the pandemic threatens to consume humanity, former U.N. investigator Gerry leads a worldwide search to find the source of the infection and, with luck, a way to halt its spread.”

While we’ve been waiting for a new movie, the World War Z property has been kept alive and in the public consciousness through Saber Interactive’s video game. In fact, the zombie game just launched a new DLC pack that unites the franchise with “The Walking Dead.”

Stay tuned for more on World War Z II.
