Zombie Webcomic ‘ShootAround’ Set for Live-Action Feature Adaptation

Published

Zombieland meets Bring It On in the young adult horror-comedy ShootAround, based on Susanna “Suspu” Nousiainen’s webtoon comic that has amassed 28 million views.

Variety reports that Aiyana K. White (“The Night Agent”) is writing the feature adaptation, with a previous draft by Mike Dow & Devon Kelly (“Inside Job”).

When the zombie apocalypse hits Penny Hall High, the state’s best girls’ basketball team must join forces with the boys they loathe to survive the most nightmarish scenario imaginable: 24 hours locked inside their high school with each other… and zombies. But mostly each other.

Lion Forge Entertainment’s David Steward II and Stephanie Sperber are producing, with Webtoon Productions’ David Madden and Jason Goldberg serving as executive producers.

“I devoured all 70 chapters of the webcomic’s first season in one sitting,” commented White. “I was taken not only with how funny and absurd it was, but also with how much heart was at the center of it. I’m so excited to bring such a fun, unique world to life.”

ShootAround is a fresh, high-energy take on both the zombie and teen sports genres, balancing humor and horror with a character-driven edge,” said Steward. “Partnering with Webtoon Productions and Aiyana brings together an incredible creative team to reimagine this fan-favorite story in a way that feels fun and wildly entertaining for today’s audiences.”

“We’re always looking for standout IP with the potential to grow beyond a single format, and ShootAround is exactly that,” added Sperber. “It’s a bold, high-concept world with a built-in global fanbase and the kind of dynamic characters that lend themselves to long-term franchise storytelling.”

“When the zombie apocalypse makes its way to high school, all bets are off, and we knew the hilarious and horrific moments in ShootAround would make for a one-of-a-kind, genre-blending film adaptation,” said Goldberg. “We’re thrilled to have the incredibly talented Aiyana K. White and the exceptional producing team at Lion Forge as our teammates on this project. This is going to be the adaptation fans have been waiting for!”

The ShootAround webtoon is available to read for free online.

Two-time BAFTA winning filmmaker Joe Wright (Hanna, “Black Mirror“) is set to direct the feature adaptation of post-apocalyptic thriller novel, Juice, Deadline reports today.

Emmy winner Abi Morgan (Shame, “Eric”) will adapt Tim Winton‘s novel for Working Title Films.

In Juice, “A young husband and father is recruited into a top-secret resistance organization, to join the ranks of militia men tasked with targeting the isolated and wealthy culprits responsible for this global catastrophe.  When a mission goes wrong, he finds himself on the run, having to fight to the end to survive in this hostile world.”

It’s set in a world ravaged by climate-change disaster.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled that Tim Winton has entrusted us with his extraordinary epic,” Wright told Deadline. “The story is both a thrilling modern family saga and an urgent call to action. I cannot wait for audiences to experience it on the big screen.”

Winton added, “I’m pleased to know a filmmaker of Joe Wright’s calibre has chosen to adapt Juice for the screen. His capacity to portray the turmoil and the turning points of nations and peoples as well as private individuals distinguishes his work as a director and I’m confident that Juice is in good hands.”

Juice was initially published in October 2024 and longlisted for The Climate Fiction Prize 2026.
