Pinetown Production had massive success two years ago with the South Korean box office hit Exhuma – one of Bloody Disgusting’s 15 Best Horror Movies of 2024 – and the company is back this year with South Korean occult mystery horror movie Stoneborn.
The upcoming Stoneborn comes from Pinetown Production and Cinematic Moment, and Screen Daily shares a first look image along with everything you need to know this afternoon.
Screen Daily details, “The film from director Lee Deok-chan centers on a mysterious and sacred stone, said to grant any wish, which draws people into its dark pull.”
Sul Kyung-gu (The Merciless) and Jeon Jong-seo (The Call) star in Stoneborn.
Here’s a more detailed plot synopsis for the occult horror film…
“Jeon plays Hee-jin, who returns to her hometown with her sister – Seo Eun-soo – after the sudden and suspected suicide of their younger sister. There they find their younger brother and dominating mother, who has long revered a large, ancient stone on the outskirts of the town.
“At the funeral, Hee-jin encounters a shaman, Eul-seok (Sul Kyung-gu), who is also devoted to the stone. In the days that follow, increasingly disturbing events begin to unfold, as an unseen presence slowly closes in. While Eul-seok insists that her younger sister’s restless spirit is to blame, Hee-jin senses a far more sinister truth.”
Acemaker Movieworks will release Stoneborn in South Korea sometime next year.
