Earlier this year, Uwe Boll announced he’s making an unofficial sequel to his 2003 video game adaptation House of the Dead titled 23 Years Later.
THR has learned that original House of the Dead stars Jonathan Cherry and Ona Grauer will return for the new film.
As the title suggests, it’s set 23 years after the events of House of the Dead — in which a group of college students found themselves trapped on a mysterious island with bloodthirsty zombies. The island is still sealed, and this time around the action takes place in a castle.
Boll will direct from a script he co-wrote with Lutz Geiger. Longtime Boll collaborator Michael Roesch (House of the Dead, Alone in the Dark) is producing.
The news of Paul W.S. Anderson making a new adaptation of The House of the Dead was the impetus for Boll to revisit his film.
“When I heard that Paul Anderson is rebooting House of the Dead, I immediately knew that it will be a soulless CGI orgy,” Boll said in a statement. “And I want to do a completely different zombie movie: bloody, gory, and handmade.”
Despite the 23 Years Later Indiegogo campaign failing to meet its goal, principle photography is set for September in Germany.
