Bear (Michael Johnston, “Teen Wolf”) locks himself in the bathroom as Nikki (Inde Navarrette, “Superman & Lois”) rages on the other side of the door in a brief but tense clip from Obsession.
From writer-director Curry Barker (Milk & Serial), the horror film is in theaters now via Focus Features.
In Obsession, after breaking the mysterious One Wish Willow to win his crush’s heart, a hopeless romantic finds himself getting exactly what he asked for but soon discovers that some desires come at a dark, sinister price.
Cooper Tomlinson (Milk & Serial), Megan Lawless (“The Girl from Plainville”), and Andy Richter (“Conan”) round out the cast.
James Harris of Teashop Productions, Haley Nicole Johnson of Under the Shell, Christian Mercuri of Capstone Pictures, and Roman Viaris produce. Executive producers include Blumhouse’s Jason Blum, Teacup’s Leonora Darby & Mark Lane, and Capstone’s David Haring & Ruzanna Kegeyan.
Meagan Navarro wrote in her review, “While Monkey’s Paw scenarios often yield predictable outcomes, and this outcome is practically telegraphed from the start, Barker manages to surprise with the journey itself. And it’s one insane journey paved with blood-soaked violence and no shortage of nightmare fuel.”
Obsession is rated R for “strong bloody violence, grisly images, sexual content, pervasive language, and brief graphic nudity.”
Barker has already wrapped production on his next film, Anything But Ghosts, and is currently developing a Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot for A24.
