John Boyega and Cara Delevingne lead the cast of upcoming supernatural horror movie The Punishing from director Chris Sparling (Buried), and Deadline has a few first look images.
Deadline notes that the film is “rooted in Scandinavian folklore.”
The Punishing is set on a remote Icelandic island where a man miraculously recovers from a terminal illness—but his wife discovers the land’s healing powers come at a terrifying price.
Chris Sparling both wrote and directed The Punishing.
The upcoming supernatural film is produced by Spooky Pictures, Redwire Pictures, and Tiki Tane Pictures, with star John Boyega also on board the film’s producing team.
Deadline notes in this morning’s exclusive report, “Ignite is representing international sales for the film and launching dealmaking at the Cannes market, alongside WME Independent and UTA Independent Film Group representing domestic rights.”
The Punishing filmmaker Chris Sparling wrote the impressively contained Ryan Reynolds thriller Buried back in 2010, and he later wrote and directed the 2016 horror movie Mercy.
