It was way back in 2020 that the topic of a television series based on the werewolf franchise Ginger Snaps first came up, with Sid Gentle Films and Copperheart Entertainment joining forces to bring the property to the small screen. “Could it be more socially relevant in this day and age to launch the television series, Ginger Snaps?” John Fawcett said at the time.
But it’s now been six years since that announcement, and we haven’t heard a single peep about the Ginger Snaps television series since that original announce. Is it still happening?
Dread Central caught up with Ginger Snaps director John Fawcett and got a fresh update on the project this week. Long story short, it sounds like it’s very much still in the works!
Fawcett explains to Dread Central, “That is still very much a hot topic right now. It’s a passion project of mine. It’s a work in progress, but it’s been a long and winding road.” He adds…
“There is some heat and some creative minds working on this as we speak.”
The original Ginger Snaps movie, released in 2000 and written by Karen Walton, starred Emily Perkins as Brigette and Katharine Isabelle as Ginger. It was followed by Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed in 2004 and then prequel Ginger Snaps: The Beginning the very same year.
Ginger Snaps is the story of death-fixated teen sisters Ginger and Brigitte, who are attacked by a creature drawn to Ginger’s first menstrual period. Bitten by the creature, Ginger soon exhibits sudden aggression and bizarre transformations that convince Brigitte her sister is turning into a werewolf…and that Ginger’s embrace of her liberating new condition may be terminal.
The reason Ginger Snaps is back in the conversation at the moment is because the original movie just got a brand new 4K Ultra HD release from the Vestron Video Collector’s Series.
