We don’t even have an image to share at this time but the trailer for Adam Wingard’s new action-horror movie Onslaught is currently playing ahead of Backrooms in theaters across the country. And while it’s not online yet, we can at least provide you with the release date that was revealed by the trailer. Onslaught will release in theaters September 4, 2026!
The duo behind The Guest, director Adam Wingard and writer Simon Barrett, are re-teaming for the upcoming Onslaught, which is being released in theaters by A24.
We saw the trailer last night and we can share that it definitely feels like Wingard and Barrett are returning to the vibes of The Guest with this one. But while that fan favorite movie felt like Halloween as an action movie, Onslaught feels more like a Jason Voorhees action movie. The mask worn by the villain even looks like a pitch black hockey mask at first glance.
Adria Arjona stars in the lead role as a character tasked with taking down an unstoppable force that has escaped from a secret military base, and that villain is presented in the Onslaught trailer as a Jason Voorhees-like monster. Onslaught had been described in the past as “a gonzo action horror thriller,” which seems like an appropriate label based on the first trailer.
Basically… picture Sarah Connor versus Jason Voorhees. That’s Onslaught.
When the project was originally announced, it was noted that it would bring Adam Wingard back to his horror roots, making it more in line with films including A Horrible Way to Die, You’re Next and The Guest than his recent big budget studio pictures including the last two installments in the MonsterVerse, Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
Rebecca Hall (The Night House, Godzilla x Kong) and Dan Stevens (The Guest) also star in Adam Wingard’s upcoming new movie Onslaught alongside Michael Biehn, Reginald VelJohnson, Eric Wareheim, Drew Starkey, and Alex “Poatan” Pereira.
Stay tuned for the Onslaught trailer, which should be coming online soon.
In addition to The Guest, Simon Barrett wrote You’re Next for Wingard to direct, with Barrett more recently scripting the recent action-horror movie Azrael starring Samara Weaving.
