New ‘Jurassic World’ Movie in Development But Gareth Edwards Will Not Be Directing

Gareth Edwards (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Godzilla) brought the Jurassic World franchise back to the big screen last year with Jurassic World Rebirth, which stomped its way to $869 million at the worldwide box office. Needless to say, this franchise is still incredibly popular with audiences, and Deadline confirms that a new Jurassic film is in development.

According to a new report from the outlet tonight, however, Gareth Edwards will not be returning to direct the next installment in the Jurassic World movie franchise.

Deadline details, “Insiders say the decision was made due to creative differences and Gareth Edwards will now focus on other original projects he is developing as the studio begins to open up the search for a new director.” Universal Studios released the following statement to the outlet: “We had an incredible experience working with Gareth on Jurassic World Rebirth.”

Deadline goes on to explain that Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali are expected to return for the Rebirth sequel, with David Koepp again writing the script.

Universal could begin filming the next Jurassic movie as early as next year.

Stay tuned for more as we learn it.

Jurassic World Rebirth was something of a reboot for the franchise, getting back to basics and moving on from any characters previously featured in the Park and World trilogies.

In Jurassic World Rebirth

A covert extraction team races to the most dangerous place on Earth, an island research facility where dinosaurs too deadly for the original Jurassic Park were left behind. Their mission: collect DNA from three colossal creatures to unlock a drug with huge benefits for humanity. In a terrain populated by perils, they will make a shocking discovery that has been hidden for years.
