Bloody Disgusting’s parent company, Cineverse, has acquired genre-bending thriller Eugene the Marine for domestic release later this year, Deadline announced today.
Scott Glenn (Emmy nominee The White Lotus, The Keep), Jim Gaffigan (Linoleum), Annette O’Toole (Virgin River, Cat People), and Shioli Kutsuna (Invasion, Gundam) star in Eugene the Marine, which is expected to release in select theaters later this year.
Glenn stars as “a proud former Marine living a highly regimented life. He is on the verge of being kicked out of his home by his hostile son (Jeremy Bobb) when he begins opening up to unlikely new friends while a mysterious serial killer is murdering them one by one.“
Hank Bedford directs and co-writes with Cesare Gagliardoni.
The genre-bending film was featured on the Letterboxd Video Store’s curated showcase of yet-to-be-released festival favorites, Unreleased Gems, in May. Letterboxd Video Store described the film as a “super 16mm-shot genre hybrid: part psychological thriller, part giallo mystery, part Hallmark movie.“
Angela Aki and Hajime Kawauchi composed the score.
Bedford said, “After an incredible run on Letterboxd Video Store, we are thrilled to partner with Cineverse to deliver this horror film with a heart to American theaters.”
Also on the way soon from Cineverse is the 20th anniversary re-release of Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth, in theaters on October 9.
