Up next from Daniel Isn’t Real director Adam Egypt Mortimer is new horror movie Pathetic Fallacy, and the first image gives a peek at the psychedelic horror ahead of the film’s debut at Fantastic Fest next month.
Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi (Ti West’s X), Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day), Travis Fimmel (Vikings) and Natasha Lyonne (Poker Face) star.
Described as “a psychedelic tale of love, death and loss, shot on 35mm,” Pathetic Fallacy follows “a young widower to a new-age mountain town in search of cosmic answers and a chance to heal. When he arrives, he instead finds an outlandish murderer and a forest of demonic spirits who offer a horrific bargain: the power to cheat death at a nightmarish cost.”
The fest’s logline reads much simpler: “After suffering the devastating loss of his wife, a man embarks on a surreal journey to bring her back.”
Mortimer directs from a script by Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari (Transformers One, Ant-Man and the Wasp).
“This script gutted me. I’ve never read anything like it. It’s raw, it’s surreal, it’s heartbreaking, and it’s asking me to go places I’ve never gone as an actor. That’s terrifying and thrilling. I couldn’t walk away from it,” said Mescudi, who provides original songs featured in the film.
The film also features an original score and music by Johnny Jewel.
Producers on the pic include Steven Schneider (The Long Walk, Strange Darling), K. Asher Levin, Ronnie Exley, Karina Manashil, Chris Wilkinson, Aria Moffly and Ashleigh Snead.
Stay tuned for more on the film as our coverage of Fantastic Fest gets underway in September.
