The last exorcist on Earth unleashes Hell in space in the supernatural sci-fi horror novel Haunting Skies, and Variety reports this week that the novel is getting a feature film adaptation.
Christian Kang Bachini is the author of the Haunting Skies novel(s) – the sequel releases in October – and Variety notes that the author will be directing the movie adaptation.
The world of Haunting Skies “imagines an Earth already conquered by alien invaders, who abduct the remaining survivors for grotesque experiments. Their mistake is taking Elisa, a young girl possessed by Satan. Father Kang, the last surviving exorcist, devises a plan to get her aboard the alien mothership and make a deal with the Devil to turn Hell against the invaders.”
Natasha Halevi (“Superman,” “Peacemaker”) and Emily Ashby (“Teela and the Masters of the Universe”) will lead the cast of the upcoming Haunting Skies movie.
Christopher Young (Hellraiser, Sinister, Drag Me to Hell) is scoring the feature film.
Young said of the source novel, “Haunting Skies is so good, it haunts me. It’s wildly original and cinematic, with everything I love—exorcisms, alien abductions, the supernatural, and a wicked sense of humor. In all my years working in horror, I’ve never encountered anything quite like it.”
“The novel is not merchandise for a movie that doesn’t exist yet,” Bachini said in a statement. “It is the first complete version of the universe. Readers can enter it now — and instead of waiting for someone else to decide whether the film should exist, their response can help us make it our way.”
The first Haunting Skies novel was self published by Bachini earlier this Summer.
