Exhuma filmmaker Jang Jae-hyun has lined up his next horror movie, Vampir, and it is set to star Yoo Ah-in (Burning, Hellbound).
ScreenDaily reports that Vampir is going into production this month, with a target release of 2028.
The upcoming Korean horror movie also has a premise that brings Ben Wheatley’s incredible Kill List to mind. Yoo Ah-in leads the cast as “a contract killer who tracks down a mysterious pagan group at the request of a clergyman.“
The clergyman will be played by Lee Sung-min (No Other Choice). Lee Jun-hyuk (I Saw the Devil) is set to play a “heretic longing for eternal life who undergoes a dramatic transformation.“
Yoon Kyung-ho (My Daughter Is A Zombie), Choi Hyun-wook (Weak Hero), and rising K-pop star Doy (Kim Do-i) round out the cast.
Director Jang Jae-hyun previously teased his vampire project to ScreenDaily around Exhuma’s release, citing Bram Stoker’s Dracula as an influence.
“I want to make a vampire movie in Korea, set [against the backdrop of] the Greek Russian Orthodox church. I will spend two years writing before preparing and shooting, so perhaps it will be ready in four years,” he said.
The filmmaker also stated he had no interest in revisiting or sequelizing Exhuma, which was the highest-earning film of 2024 in South Korea. The global hit was the highest-grossing Korean film in Vietnam and Indonesia.
Considering Exhuma was one of Bloody Disgusting’s 15 Best Horror Movies of 2024, count us in for Vampir.
