Director Jacob Chase is reteaming with Blumhouse Atomic Monster, fresh off a successful opening weekend for Insidious: Out of the Further, for new horror movie Sleepover.
Universal Pictures will release the film in theaters on October 8, 2027.
Plot details beyond that remain under wraps, though it’s said to be a “quintessential sleepover nightmare.” I certainly can’t speak for all, but the sleepovers of my youth certainly involved scaring each other silly while staying up all night.
Chase will direct from a screenplay he co-wrote with Night Swim’s Bryce McGuire, which is based on the latter’s original short story. McGuire previously wrote and directed Night Swim, another Blumhouse production adapted from his short film of the same name.
Jason Blum is producing. Chase, McGuire, and Bea Sequeira serve as executive producers. Lilly Tyson will oversee the project for the company.
Insidious: Out of the Further (Come Play) debuted in the #2 spot at the U.S. box office over the weekend, second only to reigning champ Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The latest installment in the Insidious saga opened with $25.3 million in 3,303 theaters at the U.S. box office and $60.3 million worldwide. It also landed the highest audience score on Rotten Tomatoes among all Insidious films.
It’s also worth noting that Universal previously had this October 8 date saved for an untitled Blumhouse Atomic Monster pic. Now we know what’s landing in that spot.
