Ridley Scott Confirms ‘Alien: Convenant’ Follow-Up Is In Development With Michael Fassbender

Alien Covenant sequel

Michael Fassbender as David in 'Prometheus'

Ridley Scott had been saying for years that his plan was for Prometheus and Alien: Covenant to be the first two parts of a trilogy, with the third film – at one point apparently titled Alien: Awakening – set to dovetail directly into the events of the original Alien

It seems that follow-up is finally happening!

In a chat with LA Times, Scott revealed that the long-awaited follow-up is in development, and it’ll continue the exploits of Michael Fassbender‘s David, the android that’s taken a liking to playing god.

Scott tells the outlet that the Covenant sequel will pick up with the curious android creating abrave new world for himself. He describes David as a ticking time bomb:AIs can go off. And if they do, it’s like a bomb.

Scott’s sequel to Prometheus and Alien: Covenant should answer some big questions raised in the first two parts of his intended trilogy, with Covenant showing us the birth of the very first Xenomorph and revealing their creator and the purpose of their creation, but not yet working its way directly into the back-end of Alien

Of course, a lot of time has passed since Covenant released in 2017, so Scott’s initial vision for his trilogy closer might have shifted.

Covenant ended with the horrifying revelation that David had covertly destroyed and replaced fellow synthetic Walter, also played by Fassbender, aboard the colony ship Covenant. David also revealed to Daniels (Katherine Waterston), as she entered hypersleep, that he smuggled facehuggers aboard.

The Xenomorphs and the Engineers, we can assume, are headed towards a date on LV-426.

Scott is also producing a sequel to Alien: Romulus.
