From the hands that made Coraline, Wildwood is a sweeping, darkly magical adventure about Prue, a young girl who journeys into a hidden forest to rescue her younger brother. Along the way she encounters warring factions, extraordinary creatures, and a world unlike anything she’s ever known.
Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings, Masters of the Universe) directs from a script by Chris Butler (ParaNorman, Masters of the Universe), based on the 2011 children’s novel written by The Decemberists frontman Colin Meloy and illustrated by his wife, Carson Ellis.
The voice cast includes Carey Mulligan, Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Jacob Tremblay, Richard E. Grant, Awkwafina, Amandla Stenberg, Tom Waits, Charlie Day, Blythe Danner, Arthur Knight, Maya Erskine, Jake Johnson, Tantoo Cardinal, Rob Delaney, Jemaine Clement, Marc Evan Jackson, Len Cariou, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Angela Bassett, and Mahershala Ali.
Wildwood is said to be the most ambitious movie LAIKA has ever made, with 136 sets and 231 practical puppets. Director Travis Knight had recently explained, “We’ve had to build up the creative tools, the technology and our storytelling muscles to do this book justice.”
