Actor and filmmaker Luke Barnett, who has made a name for himself with incredible shorts including The Crossing Over Express, is back with the brand new short Goodbye, Monster.
Barnett partners with Fangoria Studios for the short, which he wrote, directed, and stars in.
Here’s the heartwarming plot synopsis for Luke Barnett’s Goodbye, Monster: “Wilson, a 12-year-old boy, receives one final visit from the creature under his bed.”
Set during that fleeting window between elementary and high school, Goodbye, Monster follows a child caught between wanting to grow up and holding tightly to the comforts of childhood, using the horror genre to explore memory, fear, and change.
The upcoming horror short also stars Kue Lawrence (Beautiful Boy, Sketch) with voice performances from Patton Oswalt (Ratatouille, Young Adult) and Tina Majorino (Napolean Dynamite). Emmy Winner Bear McCreary (The Walking Dead) scored the short, while Dan Crawley (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Interstellar) did the SFX makeup.
Barnett tells Bloody Disgusting, “In a world dominated by conversations around AI, I wanted to make something completely practical. From the SFX makeup, applied over the course of 3 hours by Dan Crawley, to the location (the garage of an Eichler built in 1963), to the score from Bear McCreary — every aspect of this film was done by human hand. We shot it in one day with a skeleton crew of friends on a shoe string budget. Even our poster, by JoAnne McGrath, is hand painted, acrylic on canvas.”
Goodbye, Monster had its World Premiere at Fantasia, followed by its UK premiere at FrightFest, and the horror short will next have its US Premiere at Fantastic Fest this month.
