DC has promised body horror ahead in the upcoming Clayface. In a new chat with Empire, its lead star teases a full-blown transformation that’ll unleash the Batman villain’s final form.
Clayface brings horror to the DC Universe in theaters on October 23.

Described as DC Studios’ first-ever foray into the genre, Clayface unravels one man’s horrifying descent from rising Hollywood star to revenge-filled monster in a story that explores the loss of one’s identity and humanity, corrosive love, and the dark underbelly of scientific ambition.
While marketing materials give hints at the body horror, giving glimpses of disintegrating flesh, star Rhys Harries promises his character will achieve Clayface’s familiar final form.
“It’s fucking sick!” Rhys Harries teased to Empire about his transformation.
That supports comments made by director James Watkins (The Woman in Black, Speak No Evil): “When we were at San Diego Comic-Con, people were like, ‘I hope you don’t go soft.’ And I’m like, ‘Trust me, we don’t go soft’,” he says. “But at the same time, there is that line. It’s a ride. It’s fun. It’s not torture. It’s a rollercoaster.”
Watkins directs from a script by Mike Flanagan (“The Haunting of Hill House,” Doctor Sleep) and Hossein Amini (Drive).
James Gunn’s DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran previously called Clayface “an incredible body horror film that reveals a compelling origin of a classic Batman villain.”
The upcoming Clayface horror movie from DC also stars Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Max Minghella and Eddie Marsan, as well as Nancy Carroll and Joshua James.
