’47 Meters Down: The Wreck’ Surfaces With Official MPA Rating

47 Meters Down: The Wreck MPA rating

47 Meters Down

It’s been a while since the announcement of 47 Meters Down: The Wreck, the third installment in the shark attack film series originated by director Johannes Roberts, but a release date may be on the horizon now that it’s received an official MPA rating.

47 Meters Down: The Wreck continues the franchise’s streak with a PG-13 rating, this time for “violent content/bloody images, peril, some strong language and smoking.”

Johannes Roberts and Ernest Riera co-wrote the upcoming third movie’s screenplay. Roberts had previously directed both 47 Meters Down and its first sequel, Uncaged. This time, the director’s baton has been passed to Patrick Lussier (Drive Angry, My Bloody Valentine 3D).

The new sequel stars Ron Livinston (Christmas at the Kringles, The Conjuring), Bo Bragason (The Legend of Zelda, Censor), and Sadie Stanley (Karate Kid: Legends).

The story will follow a father who is determined to rebuild his relationship with his daughter as they bond during a scuba dive in beautiful tropical waters while exploring a famous shipwreck. Of course, this is a 47 Meters Down movie, so an accident leaves them trapped and with oxygen running out.

“47 Meters Down: The Wreck is the perfect continuation of our shark-filled franchise,” said producer Byron Allen previously, who is the founder/chairman/CEO of Allen Media Group. “This film will once again have moviegoers terrified and on the edge of their seats.”

Roberts promises the third entry will be the series‘ scariest. “We can’t wait for audiences to be trapped underwater with us again,” added Roberts. “47 Meters Down: The Wreck is going to be the biggest, most-intense film of this franchise.”

The original 47 Meters Down, which trapped sisters in the water with hungry sharks, scared up $62 million at the box office, while 47 Meters Down: Uncaged took the franchise to an underwater cave system and managed to end its worldwide box office run with $47.5 million.

With 47 Meters Down: The Wreck announced in 2024, a release date and trailer should be arriving soon. Stay tuned.
