Paris Jackson and Jack Kilmer star in 'Wounds'

A horror movie’s special effects are often known to give audiences nightmares, but in the upcoming thriller Wounds, our protagonists are haunted by special effects in an entirely different way. We have an exclusive teaser of the new movie, which you can see below, before it has its world premiere at Screamfest on Thursday, October 8. Wounds stars Jack Kilmer (The Nice Guys, Palo Alto) and Paris Jackson (One Spoon of Chocolate, American Horror Stories).

The psychological thriller also stars Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight), Lambert Houston (Resurrection Factor), Renata Notni (Zorro), Richie Radichi (My Best Friend’s Dead), and Rufus Dorsey (Ali). Wounds was directed by Ron Krauss, who also produced alongside Ira Houston with Chung Dick, Thomas Carroll, Sam Shen, and Jason Sun serving as executive producers and Marvin Cheng as co-producer. The screenplay was written by Ryan Leeder, Joshua Courtade, and Ron Krauss.

Wounds explores obsession, morality, and the dangerous allure of artistic ambition, examining how creativity can both inspire and consume. Shot entirely on 35mm film, it is described as a love letter to the indie horror genre, in the spirit of auteur directors such as Brian De Palma, David Cronenberg, and John Carpenter.

In the movie, “Caleb Castle (Kilmer) is a horror-obsessed special effects makeup artist struggling to prove himself working at a fading horror studio. With the studio on the verge of collapse, Caleb gets to work on a low budget vampire movie where he meets Ginny Brown (Jackson), a talented fellow makeup artist. Desperate to prove himself, Caleb witnesses a brutal murder which inspires him to use extreme, horrific measures to make his special effects look chillingly realistic.”

Wounds makes its makes its world premiere at Screamfest, when it screens October 8 at the TCL Chinese Theatre.
