The Becky franchise is really a series that has taken everyone by surprise. The original movie essentially played out like an R-rated Home Alone, as Lulu Wilson‘s Becky fought back against Neo-Nazi fugitives when they broke into her family’s home in search of a hidden key. It’s always easy to get behind a movie where Neo-Nazis are violently killed, so having a teen-aged girl at the forefront made for a satisfying juxtaposition. In The Wrath of Becky, Becky once again must fend off a group calling themselves “Noble Men,” a thinly veiled substitute for the Proud Boys, making for another entertaining and therapeutic revenge thriller in which despicable figures meet their grisly ends.
Wilson is back for a third round of carnage with The Last Temptation of Becky, which has just revealed a pair of teasers. You can check out the teasers below before the new movie hits theaters on November 4.
Now working as a field agent for the CIA, Becky (Wilson) is sent undercover to Poland to infiltrate a family of innkeepers who are running a tourist venture at The Wolf’s Lair, Hitler’s WWII bunker. After learning that the father, Wilhelm Reuss (Neil Patrick Harris), is on a mission to bring about the Fourth Reich, Becky takes matters into her own hands.
Also starring in the movie are Kate Siegel, Brandon Flynn, Catherine Walker, and James Urbaniak. This new installment was directed by Jenn Wexler, who co-wrote the movie alongside Matt Angel.
Despite being an entirely different genre, it feels like there are parallels between the Becky series and the Fast and the Furious movies. Both films featured relatively grounded premises in debut installments, albeit heightened enough to make for an engaging story, with those adventures resonating with fans. With each subsequent installment, things get taken to absurd new levels, to the point that it’s easy for audiences to overlook any sense of reason or logic in service of a thrilling experience.
The relative subtlety of the original movie is gone and the escapades have been cranked up to an even higher level as Becky faces off against Nazis, though her invincibility almost amplifies the entertainment. In Bloody Disgusting‘s review of the movie from Joe Lipsett, he wrote, “Three films in, there’s no fear that Becky could actually die, but the film isn’t afraid to put its characters through the wringer – Becky sports a broken nose for most of the film’s last act – and there are, naturally, some extremely cathartic Nazi casualties.”
The Last Temptation of Becky hits theaters on November 4.
