‘Anything for Jackson’ Team Developing ’90s Vampire Movie ‘Bleed the Night’

The ’80s and ’90s were a transformative time for vampires in pop culture. While the ’60s and ’70s leaned more into Gothic environments, we had movies like The Lost Boys and Near Dark that offered a different approach to the figures. Then came the much more lighthearted movies like Buffy the Vampires Slayer or Dracula: Dead and Loving It, while beloved author Anne Rice got the big-screen adaptation Interview with the Vampire. The Rice movie offered the best of both worlds, unfolding in contemporary times while the interviewer was regaled with stories from the past, and the just-announced Bleed the Night will similarly blend together disparate elements.

As announced by Deadline, Fox Entertainment Studios has secured the script from Keith Cooper and Zoe Cooper, based on a story by Cooper & Justin Dyck. Keith Cooper and Dyck recently delivered 2020’s Anything for Jackson and they have the horror-thriller Casket Girls starring Gabrielle Union on the horizon. While there’s no director attached, Deadline claims the search is actively underway for a potential early 2027 production.

The outlet describes, “Bleed the Night opens with a lonely teenager answering a mysterious ad reading ‘MUST LOVE BLOOD.’ She then meets a charismatic young vampire who offers her the friendship and freedom she’s always craved — turning one summer night in 1994 into a bloody crime spree that tests just how far she’ll go for her first real friend.”

While the new movie doesn’t sound as though it will be blending together timelines like aforementioned movies, we’ll be getting contemporary filmmaking sensibilities set in a previous era. The premise might sound like any other teen genre movie about friendship, though it’s entirely possible that the story will go into some entirely unexpected places, especially based on the surprising nature of Anything for Jackson.

Stay tuned for details on Bleed the Night as we get them.
