Ron Perlman’s Horror Movie ‘Renew’ Wraps Filming

Ron Perlman stars in 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith'

Ron Perlman is an undeniable genre icon. His collaborations with filmmaker Guillermo del Toro in Hellboy, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, Blade II, Cronos, Pacific Rim, and Nightmare Alley are impressive enough to cement his legacy, but his work in Alien: Resurrection, The Island of Dr. Moreau, and the TV series Beauty and the Beast only push his accomplishments further. These performances don’t even account for the dozens of other characters he’s played across every genre imaginable.

Lucky for us, Perlman has another horror movie on the horizon. As confirmed by Deadline, Perlman recently wrapped on the new horror movie Renew, which also stars his former Sons of Anarchy colleague Theo Rossi, as well as Rachelle Goulding (Suits LA).

Renew is described as “a suspense-driven horror film that begins as an intimate love story before descending into visceral horror.” Tommy DeNucci directed the movie from a script he co-wrote with Rossi. The ensemble also includes Ronnie Gene Blevins, Allison Dunbar, Sam Daly, Danny Rivera, Rebecca Creskoff, Darko Ostojic, Bonnie Gayle Sparks, Barron Boedecker, and Chris Wilks.

Renew “follows a husband and wife who return to the secluded Montana guest ranch where they were married to renew their vows, hoping to leave the past behind and begin again. But when she mysteriously disappears, he is forced to confront the life he fought to escape as he uncovers a hidden evil lurking beneath the ranch’s idyllic façade.” You can see a first look at Rossi below.

“What excited Tommy and me most was building the film around two people with a shared history who are trying to find their way back to each other. There’s hope, humor and heart in that, but also the weight of everything they’ve been through,” Rossi said of the new movie. “When that hope comes under threat, you find out how far someone will go for the person they love. We wanted audiences invested in Randy and Liz from the very beginning, so they feel the danger right alongside them.”

DeNucci added, “From the very first draft, we wanted audiences to settle into this beautiful Montana escape and genuinely fall in love with Randy and Liz. The more authentic their relationship feels, the more terrifying it becomes when everything begins to unravel. This remarkable cast brought that emotional journey to life in ways that exceeded every expectation.”

This isn’t the only Sons of Anarchy reunion between Perlman and Rossi in the works, though, as the pair will also star in Legends. In that movie, the actors, alongside Charlie Hunnam, Katey Sagal, Maggie Siff, Mark Boone Junior, Tommy Flanagan, and Kim Coates, play fictionalized versions of themselves who reunite at convention, only to face off against a mysterious threat.

Neither Renew nor Legends have release dates.
