The upcoming thriller One Night Out from Orion Pictures is bringing together stars from some of the most acclaimed horror movies of the decade, though they are titles whose theatrical receptions couldn’t be more different.
As confirmed by Deadline, the new movie from filmmaker George Tillman Jr. will be coming to Prime Video and will star The Invisible Man‘s Aldis Hodge and Sinners‘ Wunmi Mosaku.
“I’ve wanted to work with Aldis and Wunmi for years. We’ve talked in the past about collaborating, but I’ve been looking for the right project for us to do together, and I’m very happy we found it in One Night Out,” Tillman shared in a statement.
When it was released, The Invisible Man earned massive praise from critics. Previously, Tom Cruise‘s The Mummy was set to revive the Universal Monsters with a Dark Universe of reboots, only for the movie to be received so poorly that it canceled all future plans for that franchise. When the Dark Universe was announced in 2017, Johnny Depp was revealed to be taking on the role of the Invisible Man at some point in the future, only for that project to be one of the many abandoned ideas.
Instead, Leigh Whannell put a more contemporary spin on the concept, with his The Invisible Man focusing on a woman (Elisabeth Moss) who was stalked by her abusive boyfriend from what appeared to be beyond the grave. The movie scored 91% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, but weeks later, the coronavirus pandemic saw theaters around the world close, cutting short The Invisible Man‘s theatrical run.
Last year, Ryan Coogler released his From Dusk Till Dawn-esque horror movie Sinners, in which Michael B. Jordan starred as a pair of twins who ran a juke joint that became the target of vampires. The brutal, R-rated horror movie had major success at the box office, scoring $371.6 million worldwide, in addition to earning 97% positive reviews from critics.
Mosaku herself was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, with the movie winning Coogler an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, Jordan an Oscar for Best Actor, and Autumn Durald Arkapaw an Oscar for Best Cinematography.
Deadline says One Night Out “follows a married couple with marital issues who leave a babysitter at home with their three kids during a rare night out. When they see someone in their house on the nanny cam, the night goes horribly awry, and they must race home and work together to save their kids.”
