‘The Awakening’ Trailer Unearths a Hidden Threat in the Jungle

A still from the movie 'The Awakening'

With most genre movies, when characters stumble upon a deadly threat, we see figures who are in entirely over their heads and don’t know how to defend themselves. In the upcoming sci-fi actioner The Awakening, though, we see a military squad who is trained to tackle any threat, no matter how deadly.

Well Go USA describes the new movie, “An elite military unit ventures into a Colombian jungle on a mission to eliminate an enemy target. What begins as a tactical operation quickly descends into a frenzied nightmare when a primeval force awakens in the darkness. Five hundred years earlier, a Spanish conquistador expedition was consumed by the same relentless curse. Separated by centuries but connected by the same hostile territory, both groups fight to survive the jungle’s curse.”

You can check out the trailer for The Awakening below. The Awakening hits Digital on November 10 and hits Blu-ray and DVD on December 15.

The movie stars Claudio Cataño (Pacific), Alejandro Buitrago (Narcos), Héctor Sánchez (Mi Bestia), Andrea Olaya (Thousand Fangs), Quique Sanmartín (Pepe Caceres), Jaisson Jeack (Thousand Fangs), Carlos Mariño (The Initiated), Andres Londono (Narcos: Mexico), Salvador Bridges (Adiós al amigo), and Ricardo Leguizamo (Vampire Academy).

The movie was written and directed by Jaime Osorio Marquez (The Squad), who sadly passed away before finishing the movie. Co-creator and producer Federico Durán and director José Luis Rugeles (Alias Maria, Rebellion) completed work on the film.

“With The Awakening, we recover the magic of a magnificent filmmaker like Jaime Osorio, for us the best creator of magic realism horror in Latin America. This film, curated by some of the best directors in Colombia – his friends responsible for his legacy – is a great example of his vision for action, horror, fun and amazing directing. We are proud to be part of this film and this adventure,” Latido Films’ founder-managing director, Antonio Saura, shared in a statement earlier this year.

Durán added, “The Awakening is a gripping and deeply moving journey into the heart of darkness – not only for the story that unfolds on screen, but also for the story behind it: that of a director who passed away before seeing it completed and the remarkable effort to preserve and restore his vision and his work.”

The Awakening hits Digital on November 10 and hits Blu-ray and DVD on December 15.
