Korean movie The Gangster, the Cop, the Devil (2019) is getting an English-language remake with James Wan at the helm, and THR reports that Keanu Reeves is currently in talks to star.

Reeves would star alongside Ma Dong-seok (Train to Busan), also known as Don Lee, who starred in the original Korean film from director Lee Won-tae and will reprise his role in the remake. There’s no word at this time on who Reeves would play in this remake.

In the original movie, “a police officer and a crime boss reluctantly team up to track down a serial killer. With each having their own motives, double-crosses and cat-and-mouse games ensue, along with a heaping helping of police versus criminals and gang versus gang action.”

The South Korean thriller was loosely inspired by real-life South Korean serial killer cases from the mid-2000s, and starred Don Lee as the titular gangster in this serial killer thriller equation. It debuted in the “Midnight Screenings” section at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, and screened at the 2019 Fantasia International Film Festival.

Eric Pearson (Thunderbolts*, Fantastic Four: First Steps) wrote the latest script, based on previous drafts by Shay Hatten (Resident Evil) and Brian Helgeland (A Knight’s Tale, L.A. Confidential).

Wan is also producing via his Blumhouse-Atomic Monster banner. Blumhouse-Atomic Monster’s Michael Clear and Jason Blum will also produce. Don Lee, Sylvester Stallone, D. Matt Geller, Chris S. Lee, Jang Won-seok, and Lorenzo di Bonaventura are also on board to produce.

This will mark the first film directed by James Wan since the Aquaman sequel back in 2023.
