Earlier this month, James A. Janisse and Chelsea Rebecca from Dead Meat commissioned and collected a handful of original horror shorts to form the horror anthology movie Fresh Meat, which was released into theaters for one-night-only on October 12. Fresh Meat managed to scare up almost $300,000 in 564 theaters across that one night, and it’s now available at home.
The Dead Meat team has announced this morning that Fresh Meat is now available for Digital rental exclusively on the platform Pijama, a brand new streaming site for indie filmmakers.
Dead Meat’s James A. Janisse explains, “We’re so excited to launch our digital rental period on Pijama, a new streaming site made by and for independent filmmakers. It gives a much higher revenue split to creatives than the mainstream alternatives. You can watch Fresh Meat on Pijama for $9.99 RIGHT NOW! No matter WHERE YOU ARE IN THE WORLD! Enjoy!”
Earlier this year, the pair put the word out that they wanted to find up-and-coming filmmakers who deserve the spotlight, with the hope being to elevate the awareness of talents on the rise. The result is the anthology movie Fresh Meat, which brings together the best submissions from the initiative, while also featuring an all-new segment directed by James A. Janisse.
The Dead Meat team were submitted more than 500 shorts, first whittling things down to 30. From there, the top 13 submissions were selected. James A. Janisse himself directed the movie’s wraparound segment. The other individual short film segments featured in Fresh Meat come from the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia, Austria and the Netherlands.
“We’ve been wanting to do this for a long time — hold a shorts competition to help identify and support the next generation of horror filmmakers,” said Janisse and Rebecca. “Dead Meat has always been a champion of horror cinema, even before its recent mainstream success, which has been exciting to witness. Now more than ever we’re getting smart, original, groundbreaking films in our beloved and historically underappreciated genre. We’re thrilled to join in on the fun and help contribute to that talent pool with Fresh Meat.”
Fresh Meat is produced by Dead Meat and Hades Films.
