Radiohead Channel ‘The Wicker Man’ in New Song “Burn the Witch”

The internet was in a huge buzz the past couple of days after seeing that alt-rock band Radiohead had wiped themselves off the internet, deleting all social media posts and leaving their website a blank white page. The speculation was that this was the opportunity for a clean slate upon which the band could begin promoting a new album.

While a new full length hasn’t been announced (any day now), the band did release a video for their brand new song “Burn the Witch”. Directed by Chris Hopwell, the stop-motion video tells the tale of an inspector who is being given a tour of a small village by the local magistrate. At the end, he is brought to a festival where a giant wooden statue is unveiled. From the headline of this piece, you can most likely guess where the video goes… However, stick around until the very end for an ending you probably didn’t see coming.

While Radiohead is often known for almost nightmarish soundscapes, this song has an almost jaunty upbeat feel to it. That being said, there are moments where the intensity is cranked up and it feels like the song is ready to burst at the seams yet manages to restrain itself, maintaining its cool.

You can snag the track via iTunes or through the band’s store.
