Thrash metal titans Metallica have announced that they are in mixing stages of their new album, which is the follow-up to 2008’s Death Magnetic. The news comes from Lambgoat, who say that a post on the band’s official website featured a brief interview blurb that confirmed the news. However, I am unable to find that post, which the Lambgoat states was published on June 9th.
Lambgoat explains the following:
The news comes via an interview conduced [sic] by a member of Metallica’s staff for an article on the band’s official website. Within the piece, which was posted on June 9, its auther [sic] stated this: “I managed to corner Lars and James at HQ before they locked themselves in the control room with Greg Fidelman to start mixing the new album.”
With no link to a source article, I’d be cautious about believing this. Still, the past several months have shown multiple outlets confirm that the band is, at the very least, writing and potentially recording new music. So if they’ve been doing that for a while, they may very well have enough material to constitute a new full album.
