Waxwork Records to Release OST for ‘Altered States’

Waxwork Records is going to release the soundtrack to the 1980 sci-fi/horror film Altered States on limited edition vinyl, according to a tweet that showed an image from the film.

“A Harvard scientist conducts experiments on himself with a hallucinatory drug and an isolation chamber that may be causing him to regress genetically.”

Directed by Ken Russell and starring William Hurt and Drew Barrymore, the film features music by John Corigliano (The Red Violin), who is a renowned classical composer whose works now number well over one hundred. He has received multiple awards, including a Pulitzer Prize for Music and multiple Grammys.

No release date or other information has been given but this is still very cool news! That movie has been the inspiration for many other films (including the ‘Tsst’ episode from “South Park”) and I remember watching it and being deeply unsettled. There’s something very eerie about this movie.
