The Cure, Guns N Roses, and More Get the ‘Garbage Pail Kids’ Treatment

Published

on

Growing up, getting something from Topps was an exciting moment. Candy, sports cards, collectibles… Whatever it was, I knew it was going to be something made with quality and care.

One of their products that horror fans are intimately acquainted with was their Garbage Pail Kids line, which was a mockery of Cabbage Patch Kids and ultimately spawned a less than well received movie. Still, the cards themselves are still highly sought after and adored by horror and non-horror fans alike.

Now Topps has decided to mix the music world with the aesthetic of Garbage Pail Kids by taking highly recognizable bands and giving them a gruesomely playful artistic facelift! Bands like The Cure, Guns N Roses, and more have been blessed with this ridiculous yet endearing design. Check a few out below and then snag prints directly from Topps.

Cheers to StereoGum for the find!

Artist Draws Horror Icons in the Creepy Black & White Style of ‘Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark’

Published

The three-book series Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is still fondly remembered forty years after the publication of the first installment, giving nightmares to multiple generations of children with classic horror tales that were elevated by truly chilling illustrations. It was Alvin Schwartz who wrote the stories, and artist Stephen Gammell who brought them to life.

Artist “Watchful Eye” is channeling Gammell with their latest project, imagining your favorite modern horror movie icons in the style of his Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark illustrations.

Watchful Eye’s creepy black & white illustrations bring Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger, Candyman, Michael Myers, Leatherface, and Ghostface into the world of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, and you can pick up 8×10 prints for just $20 each over in Watchful Eye’s shop.

The artist has even written up short and sweet little horror stories for each piece of art, fully embracing that retro Scary Stories vibe. The Jason Voorhees art, for example, is titled “Drowned,” with the accompanying caption reading, “Maybe your mother will miss you too.”

Thanks to Twitter’s @RealMMyers78 for bringing this killer art to our attention.
