10 Great 70’s Supernatural Horror Films + “The Exorcist” Premiere

Published

When it comes to mixing EDM and horror, one of the biggest names in the game is Evansville’s FIGURE. Since 2012, he’s provided the soundtrack to Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights and he’s known for his Monster series, which mixes hard hitting dubstep with horror movie samples.

Today, we’ve got a double whammy from Figure. First, to get people hyped for Halloween (and to provide a movie playlist suggestion), he’s whipped up his 10 favorite 70’s supernatural films, which features some solid classics as well as movies that don’t get the love that they deserve.

Additionally, we’ve got an exclusive first listen for the track “The Exorcist”, which appears on Monsters 7, an album that comes out October 7th. Head down below for the list and the track premiere!

You can pre-order Monsters 7 right here.

Using the term “Supernatural” when talking about a movie, could mean a lot of different things to a lot of people. To me, the term remains, in its basic definition, Ghosts, Possession, Hauntings, and Powers of sorts. Sometimes I will consider a basic murder movie supernatural, even if it ends up being a guy just taking people out, if they set that vibe, it’s supernatural to me (take Jason for example, his ability to not be killed easy touches on supernatural, but the films are taken as slashers). This list is in order of the movie’s importance to me, including replay value throughout the years and influence. This is even harder of a list to make because of how strong the Italian horror movie output was at the time. Here are my top 10 Supernatural movies from the 70s!

1. The Exorcist (1973)

2. Suspiria (1977)

3. The Omen (1976)

4. Phantasm (1979)

5. The Amityville Horror (1979)

6. Mark of the Devil (1970)

7. The Legend of Hell House (1973)

8. Carrie (1976)

9. Burnt Offerings (1976)

10. Salem’s Lot (1979)

Honorable Mentions: The Car, Hausu (House)
