One of the best ’80s synth scores is being given new life.
We told you back in December of last year that Killer Klowns from Outer Space composer John Massari was revisiting the film’s fan-favorite tunes and presenting them in a brand new way, performing them with a live orchestra in a series of videos that have been hitting YouTube these past several months. Where does Massari go from here, in regards to this awesome 30-years-later project? Well, he needs our help.
Massari just launched an Indiegogo campaign in an effort to “re-awaken” the entire Killer Klowns score with a live orchestra. He’s enlisted the help of fellow composer Bear McCreary (“The Walking Dead”), and he wants to film the whole process and invite us all along for the ride.
He explains…
“In 1988, the Chiodo Brothers unleashed “Killer Klowns from Outer Space” onto the world. I was selected to compose the music score for this amazing film. My original synthesizers exploded the soundtrack with a kaleidoscope of colors and textures; however, the creative soul and inspiration living in this epic score was born from the heart of classical music.
It is my desire to re-awaken the heart and soul of this iconic film score, adding a fresh dimension by utilizing the powerful majesty of a full classical orchestra featuring Hollywood’s finest musicians. I invite you to join me personally in this amazing artistic process. You will stand with me during each recording session either VIRTUALLY, from anywhere in the world, OR LIVE-IN-PERSON!

Massari notes that he intends on eventually releasing a brand new version of the Killer Klowns soundtrack (as well as a DVD documentary), including a booklet with liner notes that will include ORIGINAL NEVER BEFORE SEEN artwork by the Chiodo Brothers.
