I know it’s a bit hyperbolic, but Deftones is making a strong case as one of the best bands of all time. While they were a product of the moment, and lost huge momentum after the masterpiece, White Pony, the band has shown growth and consistency for over 15 years, even though the tragic loss of their bassists, Chi Ling Dai Cheng, back in 2013.
Deftones, fronted by Chino Moreno, typically takes more than a few years between albums, which is why I wasn’t expecting to hear anything new until at the very least 2019. Yet, here we are, gazing upon the following Instagram post that teases a potential return to the studio. Could the Sacramento-based legends have a new album out by the end of the year, possibly early 2019? Only time will tell, but it’s a welcomed release after 2016’s Gore.
