Sevendust’s “Not Original” Was Inspired By “Stranger Things”

On May 11, Sevendust returns to form on All I See Is War, easily their best record since Seasons. While the band usually pounds out album after album, this time around they took eight months to write, which they described as a breath of fresh air.

While the album is soaked in social commentary, one interesting source of inspiration comes from Netflix’s popular “Stranger Things”. The track “Not Original” thrives on airy, cinematic guitars that unfurl into one of Witherspoon’s bluesiest and boldest performances.

“We wanted to get into some new territory,” explains lead guitarist Clint Lowery. “It’s about being in a dry spell and not able to find creativity. You don’t want to repeat yourself. I thought I’d go for this new wave thing, because I was watching a lot of Stranger Things.”

Here’s the music video for the track off All I See Is War, out May 11 through Rise Records.
