After a vicious five year wait, Alice In Chains is back with brand new music! A video for the single “The One You Know” is here and it’s heavy. It’s the kind of evolution to the band that makes me immediately wonder what it would sound like if Layne Staley hadn’t passed away all those years ago. With that said, it’s still a miracle to me how incredible William DuVall is as his replacement and I’ve fully embraced this new chapter in the band’s career.

Speaking to Guitar World a few weeks ago, guitarist and co-vocalist Jerry Cantrell said the as-yet-untitled album is one “we haven’t done yet, I can tell you that.” He added, “But it’s also a record that has all the elements of anything you would expect from us. It’s got our fingerprint. And we’re really proud of the material that we wrote and the performances we captured.

“There’s some really heavy shit, some really ugly stuff, some real beautiful stuff, some weirdo trippy shit… it’s good!”

Nick Raskulinecz (Deftones, Mastodon) and Joe Barresi (Tool, Queens Of The Stone Age) mixed the album, which still hasn’t been announced.
