[Exclusive] Derek Mears Slashes Up Bad Guys in The Manx’s Bloody New Music Video “Nightblade”

Published

on

Available July 12,Nightblade” is the second release off The Manx‘s album Malibu Slime, and the gory music video features Derek Mears (Friday the 13th, “Swamp Thing”) as a vigilante on rollerblades. Want to watch it? Well good news. We’re debuting it right here, right now!

The Manx guys are insanely talented creators and musicians. I love how they push boundaries with their art. When they asked me to be a part of their new music video I jumped at the chance,” Mears explained to us. “Their musical style is so crazy creatively fun! Their music just makes you want to move. Their music is calculated chaos. They’re brilliant. When Myke Chillan originally pitched me the idea for Nightblade, I believe it was after he said ‘The song is about a vigilante on rollerblades who—’ and that’s when I cut him off and said: I’m in.”

Check out “Nightblade” below!

Animated and slime-slathered, The Manx have morphed over time from an acoustic folk-punk three piece into their current form – An explosive, bubble-fueled arcade-amped quintet featuring obscure instruments, cartoon styling, and their own wonky lexicon. The Manx are a surrealist, avant garde punk act made up of full-time animators and an anchor salesman.

Cynical and gritty, but somehow also whimsical, the lyrics spew forth with a post-hardcore urgency, and the band rage with an unmatched energy and completely unique aesthetic. Their new long-player, Malibu Slime was produced by Toshi Kasai (Melvins, Tweak Bird, Qui) and features cameos from friends Justin Roiland (Rick & Morty), Justin Pearson (The Locust), and Derek Mears (Friday the 13th).

Malibu Slime encapsulates the art-punk world that is The Manx, complete with unparalelled riffage and a universe of spectacular characters. In addition to the band, it’s members have developed music for Nickelodeon Animation Studios, designed characters for Rick and Morty, shot video for Adult Swim and Comedy Central, and literally sold anchors.

The Manx take over the Bootleg Theater in Los Angeles, California for the Malibu Slime record release show on Saturday, July 20th at 8:30pm. You can grab your tickets today!
