These are harsh times and Nine Inch Nails is here providing the soundtrack with a pair of brand new instrumental records that Trent Reznor says are for “two different mindsets.”
Nine Inch Nails fans woke up to quite the treat when Reznor announced the surprise release of Ghosts V: Together and Ghosts VI: Locusts, a double album released for free on NIN’s official website.
“Anybody out there? New Nine Inch Nails out now. Ghosts V – VI. Hours and hours of music. Free. Some of it kind of happy, some not so much,” wrote Reznor in a tweet.
“Music — whether listening to it, thinking about it or creating it — has always been the thing that helped us get through anything — good or bad,” Reznor explained in a statement obtained by CoS. Of the two records, Reznor described Ghosts V: Together as “for when things seem like it might all be okay, and Ghosts VI: Locusts… well, you’ll figure it out.”
The albums are a followup to NIN’s massive Ghosts box set from 2008 and run a whopping 154 minutes through 23 tracks.
