Progressive/psychedelic Norwegian black metal band ENSLAVED will soon be returning to the western hemisphere as direct support for fellow countrymen DIMMU BORGIR.  The 32-date “Darkness Reborn World Tour” across the U.S. and Canada launches on Friday, November 5th in Worcester, Massachusetts and ends Tuesday, December 14th in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada.  The tour includes Blood Red Throne and Dawn Of Ashes.  ENSLAVED’s new album, Axioma Ethica Odini, is scheduled for release in North America on September 28th.

Nuclear Blast caught up with rhythm guitarist/songwriter Ivar Bjørnson and bassist/vocalist Grutle Kjellson to ask a few questions about the upcoming trek:

There are THREE Norwegian bands on ONE North American bill.  Why does this tour make SO MUCH SENSE?
IVAR BJØRNSON: “Norway has always offered a varied selection of extreme Metal bands – something this bill clearly showcases!  There seems to be a two-way affinity between Norwegian musicians and North American listeners, and we’re sure this tour will solidify this bond.  We’ve known DIMMU since the early days and are sure we’ll have a blast on the road with these guys!”

Will ENSLAVED be playing any new North American markets that you haven’t played in before?
GRUTLE KJELLSON: “We will be playing in some areas that we´ve never been before, and we are particularly looking forward to perform in Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver in Canada. We´ve only been playing in Ontario and Quebec before, and we always meet some fans that travel a long way from other provinces in Canada when we are playing in Toronto and Montréal. It will be nice to travel around a little bit more in Canada, too + the metalheads there are really nuts!!  Heh, heh.  Also, we have never been to Las Vegas and I´m looking forward to see [lead guitarist] Ice [Dale] go apeshit with gambling.”

Given that you’ll be supporting your new album, Axioma Ethica Odini, what sort of process will the band undertake to come up with a set list?  Will it be democratic, totalitarian, via dictatorship, or a coupe?
IVAR BJØRNSON: “ENSLAVED has a unique form of internal government; we call it ‘Contributocracy.’ The more you know about something (example: playing drums, singing, writing lyrics), the more your vote counts in questions directly relating to your field of ‘expertise.’ This is also adjusted by the good old ‘effort’ measurement: If you take time off from your hobbies / social life and work hard with preparing a tour, you will have more to say in the decisions made for that tour. We have a few guys in the band that really know a lot about the live-format (particularly Ice Dale and Grutle) from their life-long interest in live albums, videos, and going to shows, so perhaps they have a little more leverage in our discussions; we know they know what they’re talking about. Then there’s the labor of planning and execution; that’s where my vote gets fattened up, heh heh.”

You’ll be touring during the holidays.  Any requests from family members or friends for U.S. or Canadian souvenirs?
GRUTLE KJELLSON: “Maybe I´ll buy my father a Canadian Police uniform? Or a Boston lobster hat? That would really be something, huh? Last year I got him an Elvis shirt from Graceland and he seemed to enjoy that one. Well, let´s hope they do not ask for full size statues of John Candy in bronze or a ‘Build Yourself A Washington Free Mason Temple Kit.”  I would rather prefer CDs, vinyl, books, etc.  Father, are you reading this?”

‘The Lost Boys’ Musical Extends Broadway Run With North American Tour Set for Spring 2028

The Lost Boys: A New Musical officially kicked off on Broadway last month, and Deadline now reports that the show’s Broadway run has been extended into next year.

The show was originally set to run through November, but Deadline reports that The Lost Boys: A New Musical “has released a block of tickets through Sunday, March 7, 2027.”

The news comes in the wake of The Lost Boys: A New Musical becoming the most Tony-nominated musical of the season with twelve nominations including Best Musical.

Additionally, “The Lost Boys will launch a North American National Tour in Spring 2028, at Playhouse Square in Cleveland. Additional cities and tour dates will be announced later.”

The Lost Boys: A New Musical is of course an adaptation of the 1987 horror classic from director Joel Schumacher, with the cast including Ali Louis Bourzgui as lead vampire David (originally played by Kiefer Sutherland), Maria Wirries as Star (originally played by Jami Gertz), and LJ Benet as the soon-to-be-turned Michael (originally played by Jason Patric).

The horror musical’s cast also includes Shoshana Bean as Lucy Emerson, Benjamin Pajak as Sam Emerson, Paul Alexander Nolan as Max, Jennifer Duka as Alan Frog, Miguel Gil as Edgar Frog, Brian Flores as Marko, Sean Grandillo as Dwayne, and Dean Maupin as Paul.

The Lost Boys: A New Musical is Directed by Michael Arden, featuring Music and Lyrics by The Rescues, Book by David Hornsby & Chris Hoch, Story by James Jeremias & Janice Fischer, and Produced by James Carpinello, Marcus Chait & Patrick Wilson (The Conjuring) by special arrangement with Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures.

When a mother and her two teenage sons move to Santa Carla in desperate need of a fresh start, they soon uncover the darker side of this sunny coastal community. While Lucy tries to piece her family’s life back together, Michael keeps pulling away in search of belonging.

As he finds connection with a local rock band and its charismatic leader, his younger brother Sam comes face-to-face with a terrifying reality: When night falls, Michael’s new friends are even more dangerous than they first appeared.

Joel Schumacher directed the original The Lost Boys vampire movie in 1987, wherein two brothers move to a new town and discover that the area is a haven for vampires.
