Vlad the Impaler Makes a Cameo in Assassin’s Creed: Revelations
It would seem that the special Animus Edition of the upcoming Assassin’s Creed: Revelations will bring with it a side mission that will re-introduce Vlad the Impaler in a larger role than he was given in Brotherhood (you could find and collect his coins). Sadly, it doesn’t sound as if Revelations will pit Ezio against the infamous Vlad the Impaler from which the legend of Dracula was born. Instead it looks like you’ll be exploring Vlad’s prison where you’ll be tasked with finding his hanging cell that holds within it his personal blade. Vlad’s blade is a deadly close quarters dagger that’s more than capable of vanquishing any enemies that are unlucky enough to get in your way.

I for one would’ve loved to see everyone’s favorite assassin go up against Dracula, adding a welcome dose of horror to an otherwise fantastic series, but this works too. I’m pretty sure turning Ezio into a vampire hunter would’ve made the already complex narrative a little too bizarre. Head past the break to see what else the Animus Edition includes. Animus Edition Features:
-In-depth encyclopedia, with comprehensive entries on the major characters, events and other important aspects of the Assassin’s Creed® universe.
-Original game soundtrack
-Assassin’s Creed Embers Movie: an animated short film
In-game content:
-Capacity upgrades for your hidden gun bullets, bombs & crossbow arrows to give you a decisive advantage in battle.
-Play as two additional multiplayer characters: The Crusader & a character from Assassin’s Creed® Brotherhood revamped with a Constantinople flavour: the Ottoman Jester
-The Armour of Brutus from Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood
-One exclusive customisation item.
This comes from an Irish GameStop listing where the special edition is priced at 100 Euros (about $142 in American monies) and a November 6th release. So until November we can all think about how insanely cool it would’ve been to use Ezio’s talents and arsenal of gadgets to slay Dracula. Maybe we’ll get that in a spin-off?

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78
In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).
Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.
While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.
The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.
Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.
We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
