By the End ‘Nine’ Will Be Dead…
Casting has begun on a new indie horror film that sounds inspired by SAW entitled NINE DEAD. Directed by Chris Shadley from a script by Patrick Wehe Mahoney, nine people, seemingly picked at random, find themselves locked together in a heavily fortified basement, chained to poles and told at gunpoint to figure out why they are here, or face certain death. In ten minute intervals, one among them is unceremoniously gunned down by the Shooter, whose need for revenge has taken the form of twisted ritualism. Melissa Joan Hart and John Terry star. Shooting begins this July in Baton Rouge.

When nurse Julia finds herself trapped inside the home of her dementia patient, she begins to suspect things are not what they seem; something demonic is seeping through the cracks of this old home. Trapped and with nowhere to turn, Julia soon finds herself in battle to rid the house of this evil before it is too late.

“This film depicts the most harrowing 90 minutes of our protagonist’s life, and I felt that the most visceral way to really feel this was to do a single-shot film,” O’Brien previously teased. “We are with her every step and misstep she takes – through the unraveling of the mystery to the horror of her discovery. It’s a fun, twisty roller-coaster ride that puts a new spin on exorcisms.”
Bury the Devil is the first installment in a planned trilogy. The prequel, Bury the Devil: Origin, is already in development with O’Brien returning to the helm.
O’Brien produces along with Philip Kalin-Hajdu (The Sacrifice Game) and Benoit Beaulieu (Turbo Kid).
